Chad Stahelski, “John Wick” series director, and his production company 87Eleven Entertainment are taking on the English remake of the Indian action film “Kill” for Lionsgate.
The announcement came before the release of the original film, directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat in the US on July 4. According to Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions, the film, which premiered in theaters this weekend, marks the first time a mainstream Indian film will be released in North America and the United Kingdom in partnership with a Hollywood studio.
Stahelski commented, “‘Kill’ is one of the most vibrant, wild, and creative action films I’ve seen recently.” He continued, “Nikhil delivers relentless action scenes that need to be seen by as wide an audience as possible. Developing an English version is exciting; there is a big job to be done, and I look forward to working with Nikhil, Karan, Apoorva, Guneet, and Achin to accomplish it.”
The film follows army commando Amrit, who learns that his unfortunate girlfriend Tulika has been engaged against her will. In order to derail the arranged marriage and reunite with his true love, he boards a train to New Delhi. However, when a gang of knife-wielding thieves begins terrorizing the innocent passengers on the train, the journey takes a different turn, leading Amrit to take matters into his own hands and rescue those around him.
“Kill” will be released in our country on August 2nd.
